Kalbert Young is Executive Director for the State of Hawaii State Employees' Retirement System (HiERS).  He is a former vice president and the chief financial officer of the University of Hawai‘i System, a position he held for 11 years since 2015. Kalbert also served as the director of the Department of Finance for the State of Hawai‘i from 2011 to 2014 and was the director of finance for the County of Maui from 2004 to 2010, serving under two mayors.  Kalbert also worked in the private sector for the Kapalua Land Co. and Kamehameha Schools for more than 15 years. In addition to Maryknoll School, Kalbert serves on the boards of Queen's Health System, MA'O Farms, and Mutual Housing Association, and is a former trustee of HiERS and trustee on the State of Hawai‘i Deferred Compensation (457) Board.

 

Kalbert earned a bachelor’s degree in American History and a Masters of Business Administration, both from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Kalbert is a 1987 graduate of Maryknoll School and a resident of Honolulu. Kalbert and his wife Cindy have a daughter Namlyn who attends Maryknoll (class of 2028).
