Living Our Faith, Creating Our Future — A Campaign for Bachelot Hall.

Maryknoll School and Sacred Heart Church have embarked on a capital campaign. Our goal is to raise $3 million to renovate Bachelot Hall, transforming it into a Performing Arts Center and Parish Hall. Originally dedicated in June 1923, Bachelot Memorial Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. This capital campaign and renovation intends to bring Bachelot Hall forward once again, as a gathering place for creativity, discovery, and fellowship for both students and parishioners.

A Cohesive Vision:

A New Center for Parish and School

Sacred Heart Church and Maryknoll School have worked together, developing a shared vision for the use of Bachelot Hall. Sacred Heart Church plans to use the renovated hall for large church meetings, overflow for big celebrations and masses, funeral receptions, faith formation for youth and family, and meeting space for community groups. Bachelot Hall will also be transformed into a Performing Arts Center for Maryknoll students, showcasing schoolwide performances and plays, as well as presentations by individual classes. The hall will provide a venue for school science fairs, mentoring programs, and a gathering place for Maryknoll students during the school day.

Campaign Co-Chairs Alfred Wong and Thomas Kosasa, MD, lead the Capital Campaign committee comprised of community leaders who plan, implement and oversee the $3 million fundraising campaign.

A Gathering Place

Bachelot Hall represents the rich history of Maryknoll School and Sacred Heart Church. From the Maryknoll Sisters who slept on the stage when first arriving in the islands, to the brides getting ready to be married, to the students on stage for the first time in front of an audience, Bachelot Hall has been the gathering place and center for fellowship, connections, and unity since its opening in 1923.

Its namesake was Father Alexis Bachelot, the founder of the first permanent Catholic mission in Hawaii who endured the natural hardships of forging a new church in Hawaii. With nothing but a few small, rented buildings, Bachelot laid the framework for Hawaii’s Catholic faith. Four years after the hall’s blessing, Maryknoll School opened its doors as an extension of the rapidly-growing Sacred Heart Church.

We invite you to join us in Creating our Future for Maryknoll School and Sacred Heart Church. We are blessed to be able to transform Bachelot Hall into a center of learning and fellowship for our students and parishioners. Please consider being part of this effort with your gift in support of our campaign.
