Noah ’21

Born with a basketball in his hand, Noah grew up knowing the importance of excelling on and off the court.

“My grandfather taught me that it’s not enough to want something, you have to work hard for it,” says Noah. “I take pride in being that kid who’s going to do the right thing.”

As a sophomore, Noah is the youngest member of the defending ILH Champions Boys Varsity I Basketball Team, under the leadership of Coach Kelly Grant. He juggles a full schedule of basketball practices and games, AP courses, writing for the school newspaper, interning with Hawai‘i sports website ScoringLive, and volunteer work. When it is not basketball season, he runs cross country and track. He is vice president of Maryknoll’s Hawaiian Club, and is enjoying learning about his heritage and participating in projects like cleaning up He‘eia Fishpond. He’s also been involved in student government, and served as class president last year.

At Maryknoll, Noah’s pursuit for excellence is opening up opportunities left and right. He traveled to Shanghai, China in March 2018 during Spring Break for Maryknoll’s inaugural Common Goal Diplomacy Games, a new initiative to prepare students for global opportunities and build international relationships through sportsmanship. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Ho Ching Scholarship, a scholarship that is awarded to one incoming freshman each year and lasts for all four years of High School, and includes personal mentorship by Maryknoll Class of 1963 alumni Galen Ho and Patricia Ching Ho.

Between sports, school and serving his community, Noah makes time for family and faith. Every Sunday, he and his family attend St. Ann’s Parish for Mass, and Noah feels that his faith is a guiding force in his life, imbuing values like leadership, discipline and service to others.

After graduating from Maryknoll, Noah dreams of attending The University of Notre Dame, where he has been taking online NDIgnite courses in character development and leadership. He hopes to one day be a sports journalist, combining his passion for athletics with his passion for writing.
