Maryknoll High School Curriculum

As Hawaii’s largest private Catholic school with more than 90 years of academic excellence, we empower students to customize their college prep pathway through our diverse, project-based and passion-driven classes, clubs and teams. In keeping with our
Philosophy of Education, students are welcomed into a small school setting where personal development and scholastic achievement are emphasized equally.

THE SEVEN CHARACTERISTICS OF MARYKNOLL GRADUATES

These seven characteristics represent the foundation of what is provided by a Maryknoll Education to students.

1. INDEPENDENT LEARNING

Maryknoll students learn to independently use digital, social and community networks locally and around the world. They develop their own methods to find information and solutions to real-world problems and questions.

  • Real-world projects are the backbone of Maryknoll’s curriculum. Throughout high school, students have many opportunities to research, experiment and present on topics of their choosing in subjects ranging from science to history.

  • The senior capstone project is the culmination of a Maryknoll Education. Each student creates his or her own interdisciplinary project that includes research, analysis and a real-world or community service component. Students present and defend their findings to an audience of peers and faculty judges.

Kimberly Guevara ’19 and Kylie Guieb ’19 created their own skincare line for their senior capstone project.

  • Our flexible schedule empowers students to manage their own time, meet with teachers during office hours, and focus on independent projects outside of the classroom. Advisors provide guidance during mandatory study halls, and adjust requirements as students demonstrate readiness for responsibility.

  • Our Hawai‘i Pacific University early college partnership gives students the option of taking college courses for dual credit. Students can even graduate from Maryknoll with both a high school diploma and an HPU associate’s degree, potentially saving up to two years' worth of time and undergraduate tuition.
Our 2019 Maryknoll-HPU graduates are continuing on at universities including HPU, UH Manoa, UC Berkeley and Creighton University.
