Susan Chong Wong ’66
Following her graduation from Maryknoll High School in 1966, Susan Chong Wong ’66 earned her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. She is currently the business manager for her husband, Calvin Y.H. Wong, MD. In addition to her extensive service to Maryknoll School, Susan volunteers with the Hawaii Immigrant Justice Center (HIJC), a program of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii, where she was a Board member for three years. When HIJC was known as Na Loio (based at Palama Settlement), Susan chaired “Advocates for Immigrant Women”, which primarily counseled and represented abused immigrant women and educated community outreach workers about these issues. She also serves on the board of the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, a national organization based in New York that protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans. She is a Board member of the Organization of Chinese American Women, Hawaii Chapter.
Susan has also worked as a lobbyist at the Hawaii State Legislature on behalf of local physicians and their patients. She was previously President of the Honolulu County and State Medical Association spouses’ organizations which raised funds for medical school scholarships and promoted health projects.
Susan and Calvin have four children and three grandchildren.
