Maryknoll School Presidential Search

President Announcement: January 29, 2021

Dear Maryknoll School Community,

Following a carefully constructed search process, guided by the expertise of RG175 search consultants and supported by the prayerful work of our Presidential Search Committee, we are proud to announce Mrs. Shana Tong ’83 as the 3rd President of Maryknoll School, effective February 2021.

While Mrs. Tong has been serving as the school’s interim President throughout the 2020-2021 school year, she has been dedicated to Maryknoll School long before her interim appointment.

Mrs. Tong has been an educator at Maryknoll School for 31 of her 33 years of teaching in Hawaii Catholic education. She served as principal of the Grade School for 10 years prior to her appointment as vice president in 2017. Prior to serving as grade school principal, she also served as vice principal for three years and taught science in grades 1 to 6, middle school Language Arts, Religion, Japanese, and Public Speaking. She also taught self-contained classes in grades 2, 4 and 5 at Maryknoll, Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu and Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina.

Mrs. Tong holds a bachelor’s degree in speech and communications from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and earned a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction from Gonzaga University. She also holds a master’s degree in school administration from Chaminade University.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Presidential Search Committee and the RG175 team for their hard work over the last several months.  We would also like to thank the students, faculty, administrators, staff, school board, alumni, parents and friends who contributed their support and perspectives throughout this process.

Though the world is navigating through a challenging time, we have renewed hope and energy for the leadership Mrs. Tong will bring to continue to move Maryknoll forward.

Sincerely and In Christ,

Fr. EJ Resinto
