Maryknoll Students Recognized Ahead of Cultural Exchange Trip to China
Maryknoll School
Our students were recently recognized on TV ahead of an exciting international learning experience that will take them across the Pacific.
Fifteen 4th & 5th grade students from our Mandarin Immersion Program received a special blessing on campus before departing for a 12-day cultural exchange trip to Beijing, China. The students will travel alongside three chaperones and will participate in a variety of educational and cultural experiences designed to deepen their language learning and global understanding.
During the trip, these students will have the opportunity to practice their Mandarin skills in real-world settings while exploring Chinese culture through educational visits, cultural activities, and interactions with local communities. These experiences provide meaningful opportunities for students to apply what they have learned in the classroom while building connections that extend beyond Hawai‘i.
Maryknoll School launched its Mandarin Immersion Program in 2017 and was the first school in Hawai‘i to offer such a program during the regular school day. The program continues to grow and now serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Programs like this reflect our commitment to preparing students for a globally connected future. By combining academic learning with cultural exchange, students develop language proficiency, cross-cultural understanding, and the confidence to engage with the world beyond their local community.
Maryknoll congratulates these young Spartans as they represent their school and Hawai‘i abroad. We wish them safe travels and look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return.
