Thanksgiving and Noblesse Oblige

Maryknoll Marketing and Communications
Thanksgiving provides our school community with the opportunity to give back and serve those in need during the holiday season. Each year, we partner with Catholic Charities Hawaii and the Hawaii Salvation Army to spread Noblesse Oblige and holiday cheer during Thanksgiving.
Each year, the Salvation Army Hawaii hosts its annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Blaisdell Center. This dinner hosts over 2,000 individuals seeking a Thanksgiving meal. To brighten up their meal, our K-8 students created Thanksgiving-themed placemats to share with those joining the Salvation Army for their Thanksgiving Dinner. This year, our students created nearly 900 placemats for the dinner! We're so proud of our students and faculty for their work in helping to make Thanksgiving day special and bright!

Our second Thanksgiving partner is Catholic Charities Hawaii. Our grade school homeroom classes and administrative offices adopted families who need a helping hand during the holiday season. This year, we were able to adopt 28 families and collected more than 75 boxes of items for families in need.

We also extend a special shoutout to the Teramoto Family. This year, they chose to adopt one of the Catholic Charities Families. Rylie Teramoto is in Grade 4 and Reagan Teramoto in Grade 1. Mahalo to the Teramoto family for their generosity and displaying an excellent example of Noblesse Oblige in action.

We would also like to recognize the efforts of our Grade K Stars who continue with their generous donations to our parish pantry outreach program and to the Grade 5 teachers and students who donate the proceeds from their bake sale to the Maryknoll Sisters Orphan Mission in Tanzania Africa.

Mahalo to all those who participated in our Thanksgiving service and extending generosity and Noblesse Oblige during this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!
