Derrick Wong ‘68 recently retired as the Air Force’s Deputy Assistant Auditor General for Financial and Systems audits after 37 years of federal service with the Air Force Audit Agency. He was responsible for planning and executing audits of financial management, information systems development, cyber security, and communications programs Air Force-wide. He managed the Agency’s 220-person Directorate at March Air Reserve Base, CA consisting of 4 Divisions and 27 regional/field offices located at Air Force installations throughout the western United States and the Far East. He also chaired the Department of Defense’s Information Technology - Joint Audit Planning Group. He received a number of Air Force and professional awards including Meritorious Civilian Service, and American Society of Military Comptrollers Distinguished Performance (Auditing). Derrick also completed an Air Force military career serving on active duty, in the Guard and Reserves. He retired in 2005 as a Colonel and the Deputy Director for Analysis and Gaming at Headquarters U.S. Pacific Command. He spent most of his career assigned to Headquarters USPACOM working in a variety of positions including finance, logistics and air operations with the command’s Comptroller; Strategic Planning and Policy; and Analysis, Gaming and Simulation offices. Derrick earned his BBA in Accounting from the University of Hawaii in 1972 and received his commission in May 1973 as a distinguished military graduate from the Air Force ROTC program. He has an MBA from Southern Illinois University and is a Certified Information Systems Auditor. Derrick is married to Carol Kwak ‘68.
