Media Advisory: Maryknoll Hosts Girls Volleyball Team From Shanghai, China For Pre-Season Cultural Exchange And Exhibition Games


Maryknoll School’s girls varsity volleyball team will play against a visiting girls volleyball team from Shanghai Fuxing High School in preseason exhibition games that are part of a bigger initiative to teach students about diplomacy and global leadership. As part of Maryknoll’s Common Goal program, the schools are doing a weeklong cultural exchange program that includes homestays, Hawaiian cultural activities, and joint practices.

Background:
Thirteen Fuxing players are staying in homestays with Maryknoll volleyball families, and their itinerary includes mixed team practices under both Maryknoll and Fuxing coaches, tours of the Pacific Aviation Museum and Hawaii Pacific University, and ukulele and hula lessons.
                    
Maryknoll launched its Common Goal program last year when its boys varsity basketball team traveled to China in March 2018 for goodwill games at three Shanghai high schools and a tour of the U.S. Consulate. The Fuxing girls volleyball team is the first Chinese team that Maryknoll has hosted through the Common Goal program.
