Coach Tony Sellitto Named to the Hawai‘i Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Maryknoll School
Maryknoll School proudly celebrates legendary coach and athletic leader Tony Sellitto, who has been selected for induction into the Hawai‘i Sports Hall of Fame as a member of its Class of 2026.
This prestigious honor recognizes a remarkable career defined not only by historic accomplishments, but also by Coach Sellitto’s lasting influence on generations of student-athletes, coaches and families throughout Hawai‘i.

Coach Sellitto served as Maryknoll School’s athletic director and head boys basketball coach from 1966 to 1988. During his tenure, he helped elevate Maryknoll Athletics as the school advanced from Class A to Class AA—the highest classification in the state at the time. Under his leadership, the Spartans earned six league championships, made five state playoff appearances and captured the 1984 state championship.
These accomplishments are especially meaningful because they came before the construction of the Maryknoll Community Center, when Maryknoll did not yet have an on-campus gym of its own.

Coach Sellitto later continued his extraordinary career at Hawai‘i Pacific University, guiding the Sea Warriors to the 1993 NAIA national championship—the only collegiate basketball national title in Hawai‘i history. He remains the only basketball coach in the state to win both a high school state championship and a collegiate national championship.

Yet Coach Sellitto’s legacy cannot be measured by championships alone. His leadership, discipline and belief in young people helped shape countless lives. The lessons he taught about preparation, perseverance, teamwork and character continue to resonate throughout the Maryknoll community today.
The Tony Sellitto Hawai‘i Invitational was established in his honor, connecting the proud history of Maryknoll Athletics with its future and creating new opportunities for scholar-athletes. His induction into the Hawai‘i Sports Hall of Fame is a fitting recognition of the extraordinary impact he has made at Maryknoll and across Hawai‘i’s athletic community.

Coach Sellitto will be officially inducted at the Hawai‘i Sports Hall of Fame’s 2026 Induction Banquet on Thursday, August 13.
