Maryknoll Marketing & Communications
The Japan-America Society of Hawaii - Japan Wizards Statewide Academic Team Competition (JWC) was held this past Saturday at Tokai University in Kapolei. Out of the 42 teams that entered the competition, our Advanced Team B took 3rd place!

Below are the two teams that represented Maryknoll this year:

Team A: Beginning - Lauren Kim '21, Taryn Nakagawa '21, and Kiara Yonamine '21
Team B: Advanced - Conner Furuta '20, Ian Takahashi '19, and Nick Watson '19
The JWC is a challenging and fun-filled competition for Hawaii’s public and private high school students. It is held to motivate students throughout the State of Hawaii to learn more about Japan and to help them develop lifelong skills in research, teamwork, personal responsibility and operating under pressure.

Students are required to study a wide range of topics including arts, contemporary Japan, culture and traditions, food, geography, history, Japan-Hawaii ties, language, literature, politics and government, and sports. This year's competition questions were very challenging and our teams did an excellent job competing with other teams across the state.

Both teams were committed to practicing hard on weekends and after school, and also learned 3,000 trivia questions over the past few months.

Congrats to both of our teams!!
