Ho‘ohanohano i na Kupuna: Celebrating Lei Day with Tradition, Aloha, and Community

Maryknoll School
May Day is Lei Day in Hawaiʻi—a time-honored tradition that celebrates our islands’ culture, heritage, and the aloha spirit that unites us all.
Last Friday, our middle and high school students celebrated this year’s theme, "Ho‘ohanohano i nā Kūpuna," to honor and uplift our elders, through a beautiful Lei Day program filled with mele, hula, and heartfelt performances. The event was a powerful reminder of the deep respect we hold for those who came before us and the values they’ve passed down.

As we share a video recap of this special event, we invite our Maryknoll ‘ohana and community members to reflect on the legacy of our kūpuna and how we can continue to celebrate and preserve their stories.

We also look forward to tomorrow’s Grade School Lei Day celebration, where our youngest Spartans will carry on the tradition with their spirited performances.
