Civil Air Patrol Change of Command Ceremony

In partnership with the Hawaii Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Maryknoll School hosted a Change of Command Ceremony on Saturday, April 9, in MCC Gym. The event formally initiated the transfer of command from Col. John Henry Felix, a highly decorated military leader, Maryknoll CAP Squadron Commander, and former Honolulu City Councilmember to 1st Lt. Denton Alvarado, a 2016 Maryknoll alumnus and original CAP cadet graduate. This marked the first time in the program’s history that a cadet, who has graduated from both the respective school and program, will receive the honorable role of Commander.
This event was open to the public, and celebrations included the Presentation of the Colors by Maryknoll Color Guard (their first event since the beginning of the pandemic), invocation by Sacred Heart Church Pastor Father EJ Resinto, and remarks from Hawaii Wing Commander Col. Chantel Lonergan, Maj. Gen. (ret) Darryll Wong '68, Maryknoll President Shana Tong '83, and the two guests of honor, Col. Felix and 1st Lt. Alvarado.
