Maryknoll Baseball Improves to 3-0 with Win Over No. 5 'Iolani

Maryknoll Athletics
On Tuesday, March 15, our Spartans Varsity I Baseball team shutout No. 5 ranked 'Iolani 3-0 to improve their record to 3-0 in ILH play. Following two 1-run wins against Damien and Pac-5, University of Kansas commit Parker Grant outdueled 'Iolani's ace Zac Tenn.
Grant struck out eight batters in 6 1/3 innings, allowing only 4 hits. Cade Hedani came in to close out the game whiffing 2 Raider batters for the save. The visiting Spartans opened the scoring early in the first inning. Leadoff batter Nico Low doubled to right-center and advanced to third of a Nunu Hata groundout. Low then scored on Matt Miura's sacrifice fly to center. The Spartans added two more runs later in the top of the fourth.

Those three runs were enough to hold off the pesky 'Iolani offense, who stranded 10 baserunners. The Raiders had their chances late. After Grant walked the Devine Sarkine, a fielding error put two runners on with just one out in the bottom of the 7th. Hedani came on in relief and subsequently advanced the runners with a wild pitch. He would recover by striking out Jonah Velasco and Cadence Ueyama to end the threat and seal the victory.
