Hawaiian Studies Students Join Hokulea Homecoming Celebration

Maryknoll Marketing & Communications
Today marked the final part of the Hōkūleʻa Mālama Honua Celebration with the Completion of the Mahalo Hawaiʻi Sail. Through our partnership with the Ala Wai Watershed Project and the Polynesian Voyaging Society, we were asked to join the crew of the Hōkūleʻa for her homecoming arrival. Five of our Hawaiian Studies students, along with their Kumu Kaoi Arakaki-Pedro, were onboard with students from other local schools and organizations that help to preserve the Ala Wai Watershed.
Governor David Ige and a number of other dignitaries and special guests greeted the Hōkūleʻa upon its arrival at the Ala Wai Promenade, next to the Hawaii Convention Center. Class of 2008 alumna Mikiala Akiona, a member of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, was also on hand to greet our students’ arrival! Congratulations and mahalo to Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson, the Polynesian Voyaging Society, and all those that were a part of this special homecoming!
