High School Career, College and Service Day!

Keenan Kurihara
On Tuesday, April 24th, our high school students were engaged with different opportunities to learn and grow! Our Class of 2021 freshman and Class of 2020 sophomores stayed on campus for "Career Day (and more)", our Class of 2019 juniors attended the 2018 NACAC Spring College Fair and visited universities across the island, and our Class of 2018 seniors performed community service at Kuliouou Beach Park.
Our freshman and sophomore students had the opportunity to meet and listen to a wide-range of speakers and guests, many of whom were Maryknoll School alumni, current parents and community leaders. Students had the choice of attending different sessions that interested them, with each taking a "journey" through the different phases of life after Maryknoll - including Next Stop: College, Life Skills for Success, Getting the Job You Want, Achieving Your Goals, Career Success, and Careers to Consider. One of our keynote speakers was alumna and Hawaii News Now anchor Stephanie Lum '94, who spoke about her career path, challenges and life experiences with all of our freshmen and sophomores. Mahalo to all of our guest speakers for helping make our "Career Day (and more)" 2018 a success!

Our Class of 2019 juniors began their official college and university search by attending the 2018 NACAC College Fair at the Hawaii Convention Center. Students were able to speak with over 150 schools and admissions staff members who were in attendance at the fair! Later in the day, had the opportunity to visit and tour one of three colleges here on Oahu: The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Chaminade University and Hawaii Pacific University.

Last but not least, our Class of 2018 seniors, who participated in career days and college fairs earlier in their Maryknoll High School journey, travelled to Kuliouiou Beach Park, where they worked to clear the park and coastline of invasive species. In performing this group community service, it exemplified the true meaning of our school motto, Noblesse Oblige.

Mahalo to all those that made our "Career, College and Service Day" a success!
