Maryknoll Senior Donates 200 Books to Read to Me International

As part of her senior project on childhood literacy, Maryknoll student Daysha Kau collected 200 books from Maryknoll kindergarteners and their teachers to donate to Read to Me International. Program founder and former first lady of Hawaii Lynne Waihee visited Maryknoll's campus on November 9, 2016, to accept the donation and read to kindergarten students.

Read to Me International promotes reading aloud to children in an effort to lay the foundation for future educational success, help children acquire a more extensive vocabulary, and build knowledge for eventual success in reading.

The donated books will be distributed to families in need or become part of Read to Me International's prison program, which encourages incarcerated parents to read to their children by sending them audio recordings of their voice.
