This year, our annual Charles A. Kekumano Award & Scholarship Dinner held on May 13, honors an alumnus, who personifies all that Maryknoll means in both his personal life and in his career.
Maj. Gen. Darryll D.M Wong, class of 1968, has served as Adjutant General of the State of Hawaii, overseeing the training and readiness of the 5,500 soldiers and air men and women of the Hawaii National Guard. While on active duty in the Air Force, he flew C-141s worldwide and during the end of the Vietnam War, the closing of U.S. bases in Thailand and the baby and refugee airlift. In the Hawaii Air National Guard he rose to chief of staff and commander. Gen. Wong also was an Aloha Airlines pilot for more than 32 years and currently serves on several community boards. Truly, Gen. Wong has embodied the Maryknoll School motto, Noblesse Oblige, in all his endeavors.
We are personally inviting you to help us celebrate Gen. Wong’s achievements and to be part of a very worthy Maryknoll cause. The Kekumano Dinner, which is an important part of our school endeavors, also supports Maryknoll’s Kekumano Scholarship Endowment Fund, ensuring a quality education for students who need financial assistance. To date, the Kekumano Dinner has raised more than $2,000,000 for the Endowed Scholarship.
