President's Message
In his book “The Global Achievement Gap,” Tony Wagner explains that despite our best educational efforts, our nations schools are dangerously obsolete. It is not hard to see the history of this destruction. American education is now working within a completely different global world environment where facts and recall information still seem to be the choice of teachers in their assessment and where problem solving, innovation, and performance assessment is desperately needed. Designing curriculum that encourages this new type of learning must be discussed, implemented and measured.
Maryknoll is addressing these needed changes in each school through administrative and committee leadership. The Maryknoll School Board is also leading our school in prioritizing the school year changing the strategic plan to support the needs of the 21st century learner. Maryknoll School understands the importance of leadership to create a school destined and ready to meet any curriculum challenge needed to address the needs of the 21st century learner.
Maryknoll student leaders come in many shapes and sizes, and achieve their successes in individual ways. Our student leaders respond effectively to a constantly evolving environment. Our student leaders create and share a compelling vision and story of a Catholic school destined to provide our community and world with scientists, doctors, teachers, and researchers who will. Our senior leaders share in developing younger Maryknoll student potential by example and invested time.
Leadership is also seen in our Maryknoll teachers and staff as they work tirelessly to nurture each student's unique gifts, facilitate academic growth and the faith formation to the whole child. Our teachers prepare students to become conscious of and responsive to cultural diversity in our school and society. Our teachers encourages students to integrate knowledge, faith, and values to think critically, discover a love of learning, live the Gospel message, reach out to others in service, further social justice, and deepen their relationship with God.
Our administrative professionals allow faculty the freedom to experience collaboration with other professionals to create better educational processes. We understand that the bedrock of our successful management is to empower highly skilled professionals to focus on what it is they do best. We work to ensure that the whole of our collaborative teams are greater than the sum of their parts, thus achieving the highest level of success. Talent, personality, commitment and passion are traits that are common to Maryknoll staff. These traits ultimately provide the winning combination that ensures success for our school.
The success of Maryknoll School is far from the mainstream.
God bless our Catholic school
Faithfully,
Perry K. Martin
President, Maryknoll School
