Things Fall Apart Web Quest
based
on the novel by Chinua Achebe
Things Fall Apart was published in 1958, but
its message is still relevant in today's world. Achebe depicts an Ibo
village and the disastrous consequences of one society imposing
its beliefs on another. His lessons are part of the answer to our unit's
essential question:
Have we really changed?
Your
Task
You are
on a safari to Africa!
Find
out about Nigeria, take pictures, keep a journal, write an essay, and then share your journey with the class. Your group will be responsible for
creating a fifteen-minute tour for the teacher (who is too busy to join
you). You need to show an understanding of the culture, history, society,
and problems facing the nation of Nigeria and the region of West Africa.
Create
a 10-15 minute PowerPoint
presentation to showcase your experience.
Each
group should choose a responsible leader who will help the group work
cooperatively and effectively. Each group member will have an assigned
role and tasks.
After you have completed your member assignments, formulate a 1-2
page answer to the Essential Question:
What does it mean to be civilized? Have we really changed?
