The Process
The Actor |
The Actor's task, should you choose to accept, is to discover what it was like to be an actor in Shakespeare's company. You will need to find out how someone lived in 16th century London (choose two or three of the topics offered). Learn what type of food was served; what was the popular entertainment besides the theater; what were the roles of men and women. After collecting your information, write a 2-page paper comparing your life as a student in the 21st century to what your life would have been like in Shakespeare's time. |
The Alchemist |
The Alchemist has the task of learning about the science of the Renaissance. If you accept this task you will need to learn what scientists believed about the elements in the 16th century. You will also want to find out what people believed about science. Take a look at what alchemy is. Once you have gathered your information write a 2-page paper to compare it to what modern science has discovered by taking The Particle Adventure. To complete your task, develop a poster comparing past and present science and write a short essay answering this question: How would I explain the atom to someone in the 16th century? |
The Historian |
As an historian, if this is your choice of roles, you have a longing to find out as much as you can about Shakespeare. In your desire for first hand information, you decide to take a10 day trip to London in order to visit the New Globe Theater. You will need to find out how much plane tickets cost, what it costs to stay in London for 10 days and how much spending money you will need for meals as well as taking in the sights including tickets to a performance of one of Shakespeare's plays at the Globe. Determine the total amount of dollars you will need (don't forget the exchange rate!). Once you have your information, determine your own itinerary and decide what things are optional. Create a 2-page flyer for your group, including all the costs so your group members can join you on the trip. |
The Critic |
The Critic loves Shakespeare. If you choose to accept this role you will need to write a 2-page critical paper about the play, Romeo and Juliet. Write about what you liked and disliked in the play. Then, choose one of the characters and explain how you would have reacted if you were in that situation. Include in your paper critiques from the others in your group. As a critic you will need to familiarize yourself with some of the literary terms critics might use. Come up with at least 15 relevant literary terms and their definitions and include at least 5 of them in the text of your paper. Then, develop a 25 question test your group members can take. |
