March 26-28
Robotics Team Participating in Hawaii Regional
Maryknoll School's Robotics Team will be participating in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Regional Competition to be held at the Stan Sheriff Center on the UH-Manoa campus from March 26-28, 2009. The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in competitions designed by its founder, Dean Kamen, and a committee of engineers and other professionals.
This year’s challenge, “Lunacy”, is inspired by the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. In the Lunacy game, robots are designed to pick up 9" game balls and score them in trailers hitched to their opponents’ robots for points during a 2 minute and 15 second match. Additional points are awarded for scoring a special game ball, the Super Cell, in the opponents' trailers during the last 20 seconds of the match. Lunacy is played on a low-friction floor, which means teams must contend with a surface designed to simulate driving on the moon.
You can track the team's progress as they build their robot by clicking here Team 2441’s.
The event is free to the public, and we hope that you will come out to cheer on the team during Spring Break! Check out this link to see the schedule of events.

Founders Week & Founders Day Mass February 10, 2009
Founders Week is an opportunity for Maryknoll School to re-commit ourselves to the values upon which our school was founded. It was begun to remember and celebrate the feast day of our Founders on February 14, 1920. This is the day that Mother Mary Joseph Rogers (Mollie Rogers) received papal approval for the women to form their order.
Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church in Kaneohe on Tuesday, February 10th. Every year, the faculty, staff and students from Grades 8 - 12 along with invited guests and the Maryknoll Sisters gather together to celebrate our Founders Day Mass. Bishop Larry Silva will preside and Father Gordian Carvalho will concelebrate. This year's Founders Week theme is a continuation of the Catholic Schools Week theme, "Catholic Schools Celebrate Service."
